We recently met again with the WRHA regarding changes to the Grace Hospital and St. Boniface Hospital, below is a brief update for each location:
For the Grace Hospital:
We discussed changes for Physiotherapy, Respiratory Therapy & Diagnostic Imaging as outlined in the letter received on July 27th. We have requested a formal document describing their changes so we can review it more carefully and ensure they are following the CBA. We will receive these at our next meeting, scheduled for September 6th, 2017.
If you are asked to participate in any meetings with your employer regarding any upcoming changes, please notify us immediately.
The Union needs to be given seven days notice of this meeting and be in attendance according to article 7.11 in our CBA.
Article 7.11 states:
7.11 . When the Employer considers implementing a significant change to the normal work day, or an alteration to the current shift starting and finishing times of more than one (1) hour, normal shift of work, normal work week, or normal rotation of shifts the Employer will attempt to obtain the agreement of a majority of affected employees at a meeting held to discuss and consider such changes. A properly designated representative of the Union shall be given seven days’ notice for an opportunity to attend this meeting and to express the Union’s opinion in regard to any proposal of the Employer and to submit any alternate proposals for consideration. Failing implementation of the alternate proposals, a written explanation shall be sent to the Union. If after due consideration the Employer still plans to implement the change, the affected employees will be given at least sixty (60) days’ notice. Notice time may be adjusted by mutual agreement between the Union and the Employer.
Unless otherwise mutually agreed, where the alteration to the current shift starting and finishing times is less than one (1) hour, the employer will provide effected employees with a minimum four (4) weeks’ notice.
For St Boniface Hospital:
We have received the formal documentation from the hospital and are now in the process of reviewing to ensure they are following the CBA. Once this has been reviewed, we will finalize the bumping process. As per the CBA, all affected Employees will receive notice from the Hospital. The Union will ensure that we also provide information to these members and are available to meet with any members who wish to discuss their options further or who have questions/concerns.
Our next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, September 6th, 2017.
