The Phase II changes announced today compounds the chaos that the Pallister government has already caused in healthcare. UFCW 832 members at St. Boniface are still grappling with all of the scheduling changes and additional overtime from phase 1. And now with the mental health moving from the Grace Hospital to the Victoria Hospital, it brings concern to us, because what does that mean for the social workers we represent? Does this bring loss of jobs, is there a decrease in hours, or do they have to transfer to another hospital to remain employed?

On top of these changes, there are multiple capital projects happening and this government is forcing through union amalgamations at the same time. We believe this is adding additional chaos and distractions to an already stressed system which will ultimately affect the quality of care that our members on the frontline deliver to our loved ones.

Changes happening in health care are too much, and too soon, I’m incredibly disappointed that this government won’t take the time to listen to the challenges and concerns of those working on the frontline, and that they are insistent on pushing ahead with these reckless changes.

In Solidarity,

Jeff Traeger
